Smith shuts down legislature grounds for MAGA-friendly artist
Rakhi Pancholi, Alberta’s New Democrat Caucus Deputy Leader, issued the following statement on the shutdown of the Legislative grounds due to a highly controversial concert:
“Danielle Smith is now wasting public resources so that her favourite MAGA-friendly artist can perform a concert at the Alberta Legislature grounds today. Public servants are being sent home, officers are being deployed from doing legitimate public safety work to manage this contentious event, and the roads around the public’s Legislature are being closed.
“This is an unacceptable use of a public space that is meant to be inclusive, welcoming, and safe and that belongs to the people of Alberta. The UCP government denies permits for some performances in this very same space, while wasting taxpayer money to support an artist who spreads hate towards thousands of Albertans.
“Every other government in Canada has refused to grant a permit for this concert in public spaces. Once again, Alberta stands apart in wasting money and fueling division.
“This is a nightmare of Premier Smith’s own creation. It’s a waste, it’s a distraction, and it’s more evidence that the UCP government has its priorities wrong.”

Rakhi Pancholi, vice-présidente du caucus néo-démocrate de l'Alberta, a publié la déclaration suivante quant à la fermeture du terrain de l’Assemblée législative pour un concert très controversé :
Voici maintenant que Danielle Smith dilapide des ressources publiques pour que son artiste partisan de MAGA préféré puisse donner un concert aujourd'hui sur le terrain de l’Assemblée législative albertaine. On renvoie des fonctionnaires chez eux, on déploie pour superviser cet événement controversé des policiers qui devraient plutôt effectuer un travail légitime de sécurité publique, et on ferme les routes tout autour du terrain de l’Assemblée qui appartient pourtant au public.
Il est inadmissible d'employer ainsi un espace public qui se veut inclusif, accueillant et sécuritaire, et qui appartient aux Albertains. Le gouvernement du PCU refuse d'accorder des permis pour certains spectacles dans ce même espace, tout en gaspillant l'argent des contribuables à appuyer un artiste qui répand la haine envers des milliers d'Albertains.
Tous les autres gouvernements du Canada ont refusé d'accorder un permis pour que ce concert soit donné dans des lieux publics. Encore une fois, l'Alberta s'en distingue en gaspillant de l'argent et en attisant le feu de la discorde.
Nous avons affaire à un cauchemar créé par la première ministre Smith elle-même. C'est un gaspillage, c'est une distraction, et c'est une preuve de plus que le gouvernement du PCU a de mauvaises priorités.
