UCP CUTS TO DISABILITY ADVOCATE ANOTHER SIGN OF LACK OF RESPECT: NDP

EDMONTON – Alberta NDP Critic for Community and Social Services Marie Renaud issued the following statement after news that the UCP government has dramatically reduced staff at the Office of the Advocate for Persons with Disabilities

“The Advocate for Persons with Disabilities works tirelessly to improve the lives of persons with disabilities by making recommendations that address serious issues including barriers to employment and lack of accessible, affordable housing. His work is enormously important to all Albertans.

“Today’s news is yet another sign of the UCP’s lack of respect and compassion for persons with disabilities in Alberta. Instead of ensuring this strong advocacy continues, the UCP is stripping away resources. They are hiding the Advocate’s annual report for 2019-20 because they know it shows their policies are leaving these Albertans behind.

“Jason Kenney and Rajan Sawney need to stop trying to shut down those fighting for a better Alberta and start taking responsibility for their harmful policies and lack of action.”
