NDP SWAPS CRITIC FOLIOS, ADDS NEW FACE TO HOUSE LEADERSHIP TEAM

EDMONTON - Alberta’s NDP Caucus is pleased to announce changes to both the House Leadership team and Official Opposition Critic portfolios in advance of launching a new economic strategy and the Fall Legislative session.

MLA Irfan Sabir will take on a new role as Official Opposition critic for Justice and Solicitor General. MLA Sabir will also take on a new position as deputy House Leader for Alberta’s NDP Caucus.

“Justice has always been a passion of mine so I’m excited about taking on this role and to continue holding this UCP government accountable to Albertans,” Sabir said. “Joining the house team is a huge privilege and I will use this opportunity to make sure that the UCP government keeps their eye on the ball and is focused on the priorities of Albertans.”

MLA Kathleen Ganley will take on the job of Official Opposition critic for Energy, replacing MLA Irfan Sabir as he takes on new responsibilities with the House team.

“It is an exciting time to be talking about energy in Alberta,” Ganley said. “Our Caucus will be releasing a new plan for Alberta’s economy, including proposals to diversify our energy sector, and I can’t think of a more important time in our history to be having these conversations.

“Calgary is the epicentre of energy in Alberta and as a Calgary MLA I’m excited to spend more time in my city discussing these priorities.”
