David Shepherd, NDP Critic for Health, made the following statement in response to the release of the AHS Critical Care Triage During Pandemic or Disaster document:

“I recognize this document is part of responsible planning by AHS, but it is a sobering read. It lays out in detail the heart-wrenching decisions that Alberta’s frontline health care heroes could be confronted with if we do not stop the growth of COVID cases in our province.

“The unprecedented level of daily cases, hospitalizations, and ICU admissions is the direct result of the weak leadership of Jason Kenney. Earlier this week, he falsely told Albertans that public health measures don’t affect the spread of the disease. Today, he failed to discipline his own UCP caucus members for encouraging Albertans to oppose the province’s public health measures.

“I am so grateful to all of the frontline healthcare heroes and other essential workers who are putting themselves and their families at increased risk to keep us safe. I call on Premier Jason Kenney to put the needs of these Albertans ahead of his own personal political problems.”
