UCP government to opt out of federal dental care plan
Sarah Hoffman, Alberta’s New Democrat Shadow Minister for Health, issued the following statement in response to the UCP government’s plan to opt out of the federal dental care plan:
“Alberta families deserve a government that is caring and that puts their health, well-being, and affordability ahead of picking fights with Ottawa.
“Alberta’s New Democrats stand with Albertans who want access to dental care but can’t afford it at all, or who are overwhelmed by these and other bills. Danielle Smith and the UCP clearly don’t care.
“When the UCP makes fighting with Ottawa a higher priority than getting funds to help struggling families, it’s clear they are more focused on political posturing than on services for citizens. The latest news about the UCP’s opposition to the Canadian Dental Care Plan leaves most Albertans baffled. Is posturing around separation really more important than alleviating the pain of someone with cavities or poor jaw alignment?
“Alberta’s New Democrat Caucus will continue to fight for better public health care for all Albertans, and better support from the Canadian government helps make that possible.”
