STATEMENT: Anti-science, -vaccination and -public health UCP government putting Albertans at risk

Dr. Luanne Metz, Alberta’s New Democrat Chair, Future of Health Care, released the following statement in reaction to the UCP government’s changes to COVID vaccine availability:

“Albertans deserve a government that works to protect them from preventable illnesses. Instead, they have Danielle Smith and her anti-science, anti-vaccination, and anti-public health UCP government.

“It’s cruel for the UCP government to force Albertans who want to protect their health and their loved ones to pay for the COVID vaccine. It’s unconscionable to be putting up barriers to prevent Albertans from getting the protection they need. And it’s a complete abdication of their responsibility to care for Albertans by failing to order a sufficient supply of the vaccine.

“On top of that, the UCP government is creating more chaos. They are placing restrictions on who can even get access to the vaccine, and they are changing where people will have to go to get vaccinated – if they are lucky enough to qualify.

“If the UCP government was really interested in eliminating vaccine waste and protecting the health of Albertans it would be promoting vaccines. That way the supply would get used and we would keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.”
