STATEMENT: UCP puts its political future ahead of prosperity for Albertans

Sharif Haji, Alberta’s New Democrat Shadow Minister for Affordability, reacts to worsening job numbers for Albertans:

“Albertans deserve a government focused on ensuring they and their families thrive with good jobs that allow them to reach their potential and secure their financial futures.

“Instead, we have Danielle Smith and her UCP government who have proven time and time again that they are bad for the economy and bad for Albertans desperately trying to find a job.

“The loss of 17,000 jobs in one month is the worst job performance in the country. Youth unemployment has more than doubled under Danielle Smith and her self-serving UCP government. They have abandoned young men in Alberta with one in four not able to find a job.

“While Albertans struggle Smith is focused on tearing the country apart with their separation scheme which is causing uncertainty, destroying investor confidence and killing jobs.

“Alberta’s New Democrats would never have put our future at risk with a cynical push for separation that the current premier has admitted is meant to save her political skin.

“Instead of picking fights to distract from their terrible record on jobs, affordability, health care and education, we would focus on creating certainty for job creators and prosperity for all Albertans.”
