STATEMENT: UCP interference proves need for full public inquiry into CorruptCare scandal
Christina Gray, Alberta’s New Democrat Caucus House Leader, demands full public inquiry after latest revelation of UCP government interference in CorruptCare scandal:
“I was not shocked to read Athana Mentzelopolous’ letter to government today suggesting political interference may be at play in the limited CorruptCare investigation Premier Danielle Smith initiated.
“We suspected that former Justice Wyant's investigation was a carefully orchestrated alternative to a real public inquiry, and now we see the difference. While we respect the former justice, it’s clear his work is being hampered and manipulated by this UCP government.
“Today's revelations by the former AHS CEO show the same meddling that she was digging into at AHS is still happening now, to try and bury not only her investigations into corrupt practices but also the suspicious events around her dismissal.
“The latest revelation is not surprising given Smith’s and her UCP government's constant efforts to stop the truth from being revealed.
“Once again, we are calling for a full public inquiry. A public inquiry into the CorruptCare scandal needs to be free of political interference, broad in scope and have the powers to subpoena which the current inquiry does not have.
“Albertans deserve to know the truth. Under the fake and limited inquiry setup by Premier Smith, they will never get it.”
