REALITY CHECK: Jean pledges longer wait times in American-style health overhaul

EDMONTON- Brian Jean’s plan means longer wait times for most Albertans. Allowing investors to profit from the health care of Albertans means longer wait times and the beginning of American-style for-profit hospitals.

“Albertans want better public health care and improved wait times. Brian Jean’s plan to take public dollars and pay for private hospitals won’t deliver either of those things,” said Jessica Littlewood, MLA for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville.

In Jean’s plan, for-profit hospitals will take funds away from public facilities, leading to an erosion of the hospitals and clinics Albertans and their families rely on for services every day.

“Brian Jean’s plan will only lead to private operators cutting corners in the crucial health care of Alberta patients in order to turn a profit. I’m especially worried about how this would hurt rural Albertans and cut funding to those hospitals and facilities. Albertans voted for stable funding, not cuts to publicly delivered health care,” said Littlewood.
