Nenshi on UCP transparency and ethics flip-flop

Naheed Nenshi, Alberta’s New Democrat Leader, issued the following statement celebrating the UCP government’s expense disclosure policy reversal:

“Albertans deserve an ethical, competent government, so it’s good the UCP cabinet partially reversed course on their own terrible policy about expenses. However, it shows this government is making up things as they go along as always causing chaos and confusion.

“The premier now claims she was shocked and had no idea her own government put in this policy. This shows she either has no idea what her own government is doing or she’s not being upfront with Albertans. Her claim she wanted to do one thing, but somehow something else was done just doesn’t pass the smell test.

“We know this is the most incompetent government in Alberta history. The premier can’t manage the budget and plans for a multi-billion-dollar deficit. She continues to cause chaos, corruption and cruelty in everything she touches. At the very least she should try to get the expense disclosures right, given that she’s removed nearly all other ethical constraints on her government.

“Now that the expense policy has been reversed after public outcry, she should reconvene her cabinet and rip up her disastrous gifts disclosure policy and freedom of information changes that roll back accountability for Albertans.”
