GANLEY STATEMENT ON BILL 21

Kathleen Ganley, NDP Justice Critic, issued the following statement regarding Bill 21: Provincial Administrative Penalties Act:

“I am pleased to see the introduction of the administrative sanctions model by the government. The evidence is clear, if properly implemented, this model can save lives.

“We are still examining the legislation, because the details are critical to the models of success. My hope is to see strong immediate sanctions, and an appeal mechanism consistent with procedural fairness and the gravity of the interests involved.

“Impaired driving continues to cause death and injury to Albertans, deaths and injuries that are 100 per cent preventable. In each one of those cases, the victims and families deserve to see us act on the best evidence. I congratulate the Minister on taking this important step, and look forward to discussing the details of the model.”
