DACH RESPONDS TO UCP OPENING DOOR FOR TOLLS ON DEERFOOT TRAIL
NDP Transportation Critic Lorne Dach issued the following statement regarding the UCP’s announcement to upgrade Deerfoot Trail under their new P3 framework that allows for the use of tolls:
“In the last election, the UCP promised they would never bring in toll roads, but that turned out to be yet another broken promise.
“The UCP has opened the door to tolled lanes on the Deerfoot at a time when Albertans are already paying more under this government.
“Property taxes, income taxes, auto insurance, utilities, and camping fees have all gone up while profitable corporations get billions of dollars in handouts with nothing to show for it. Now the UCP are forcing Albertans to pay for their failure as a government.
“If the UCP really want to reduce congestion and get Calgarians to work, they should build the Green Line.”
