NDP ENERGY CRITIC KATHLEEN GANLEY ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT:

“Geothermal development holds great potential for Alberta’s energy future. It is clean, renewable, and takes advantage of skills and expertise we have right here at home. Pursuing innovative projects and investing in growing geothermal development is critical for diversifying our economy.

“A regulatory framework is a step in the right direction; however, we’re reviewing the legislation to determine if the one put forward by the UCP is appropriate.

“My Calgary constituents are hurting. Alberta lost 50,000 jobs before the COVID-19 pandemic and many more since.

“We need more action. Jason Kenney’s refusal to put forward real details and a credible plan for job creation is a betrayal of all Albertans who were promised jobs now, not later.

“Alberta can be a leader in geothermal development but we need to do more. That’s why later this week we will put forward a robust set of proposals and initiatives to grow geothermal development in Alberta as part of our plan to build a modern, diversified economy that works for every Albertan through AlbertasFuture.ca.”
