JASON KENNEY MUST SHUFFLE FAILING MINISTERS OUT OF CABINET: NDP

EDMONTON – Alberta’s NDP is calling on Jason Kenney to shuffle his failed front bench.

Alberta NDP Deputy Leader Sarah Hoffman said Albertans are pulling the province out of the COVID-19 pandemic in spite of the many failures of the UCP government under Kenney’s leadership. There are more than 60,000 fewer Albertans working today than before the UCP were elected, and Albertans have lost trust in both Kenney and several of his senior ministers over a series of high-profile failures.

Meanwhile, Rachel Notley has committed to creating more than 60,000 jobs by building Alberta into a renewable energy powerhouse and modernizing our electricity grid to net-zero carbon emissions by 2035.

“To really turn the page on the failures of the past two years, we need significant changes. Alberta needs a cabinet shuffle,” said Hoffman. “The Premier is well known for ignoring his own failures and refusing to listen to Albertans—we saw this with Alohagate and with the SkyPalace patio party—but I hope he heeds this advice and he acts immediately.”

Hoffman said Kenney should avoid promoting any of his backbench MLAs who were discovered travelling abroad while Albertans were locked down at Christmas, or the MLAs who signed the letter undermining public health orders as case numbers and hospitalizations rose during the third wave.
