UCP Leader must explain extreme views or resign

For Immediate Release
July 25, 2017

EDMONTON – The first leader of the UCP is having a “lake of fire” moment, as information surfaced yesterday about a radio show run by interim UCP leader Nathan Cooper, where he gave profile to extreme anti-gay activists.

“Must-see” guests on Coopers show include Dr. Scott Lively[1], who helped draft Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act, a bill that proposed making homosexual acts punishable by death.[2]

Cooper worked for Canada Family Action when they called for a “values test” for films shot in Alberta[3], following the hit ‘Brokeback Mountain’ being shot here. The Family Action Network also promoted the idea of gay conversion therapy on their website.[4]

Yesterday, Cooper was selected by the Wildrose and PC caucuses to be the best choice for UCP Leader and Leader of her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.

These ideas are out of touch with Alberta families. As UCP Leader, Cooper must explain why he promoted these extreme views or resign.
