KENNEY FAILS LEADERSHIP TEST, BACKS SHANDRO’S SHAMEFUL BEHAVIOUR

EDMONTON – Premier Jason Kenney legitimized government intimidation on Friday by refusing to fire Health Minister Tyler Shandro and condemn his actions, said Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley.

When asked about Shandro’s behaviour—which included intimidating a Calgary doctor at his home at night in front of the doctor’s wife and children, as well as threatening to dispatch protective services to an Albertan’s home—Kenney minimized Shandro’s actions and claimed “any Albertan” would do the same.

“Let’s be clear: this doctor did nothing wrong. In fact, I was shocked to hear the Premier refer to a doctor on the frontlines of fighting COVID-19 as a ‘troll’. This doctor did nothing to deserve being bullied and intimidated at his own home in front of his family,” said Notley.

“Tyler Shandro has disgraced the office of Health Minister. His behaviour is inexcusable and Albertans will not forget it. No elected official should be allowed to act this way. Now, more than ever, Albertans deserve steady leadership that is focused on them—not personal vendettas.”

“Today was a core test of Jason Kenney’s leadership—and he failed Albertans.”

The woman who received a threatening email from Shandro is considering filing a complaint with Calgary police.
