Key Points

Albertans deserve fair and family-friendly workplace laws that support a strong economy and ensure they can take care of themselves and their families.

Alberta’s workplace legislation has not been significantly updated in 30 years. Bill 17 brings our labour legislation into the 21st century and gives Albertans the same rights as other Canadians.

The Fair and Family-friendly Workplaces Act will ensure Alberta’s workplace laws are fair, modern and family-friendly, protecting vulnerable Albertans who rely on the basic protections and rights enshrined in law.

As the workforce and workplaces of Alberta adapt to trends in business and work, this legislation will ensure that workplace laws balance the rights of employers and workers to create a fair, competitive labour market.
