UCP GEOTHERMAL TALK IS JUST ANOTHER PLAN TO MAKE A PLAN: NDP

CALGARY – The following statement can be attributed to Alberta NDP Energy Critic Irfan Sabir:

“Geothermal development is no doubt a necessary part of our province's energy future. It is clean, renewable, and takes advantage of proven technology used around the world. Pursuing innovative projects in this space is critical for diversifying our economy.

“However, the UCP's plan announced today is once again, all hat, no cattle. We have a jobs crisis in Calgary and JASON Kenney keeps going around announcing he has a plan to make a plan to come up with a plan. It’s disingenuous, and it’s a complete betrayal of all Calgarians who were promised jobs now, not later. By announcing placeholder regulations before consulting with industry, the UCP will only cause more uncertainty without drawing investment or creating jobs.

“If Alberta is to jump into this space and succeed, we need to do the work. That’s why we will push the UCP to implement a real regulatory framework and support program before the end of the year so we can attract and create jobs now.”
