NDP Mental Health and Addictions Critic Lori Sigurdson issued the following statement in response to the UCP’s recently released Overdose Prevention Services Guide

“We are in the midst of a deadly overdose crisis and the government should be taking every step possible to make supervised consumption services more accessible.

“The UCP’s refusal to look at evidence or follow public health advice has led to the highest overdose fatality rate ever in Alberta history.

“I fear that the requirements outlined in this report will make it harder for Albertans to access life-saving services. It is a well-documented fact that asking people to identify themself before accessing these services will make them less likely to use them.

“The UCP must put their ideology and personal prejudices aside and listen to health experts and Albertans accessing these services or more people will die preventable deaths.”
