GREEN LINE DELAY: CECI

NDP Municipal Affairs Critic Joe Ceci issued the following statement regarding media reports that the UCP are attempting to delay the Green Line until after the next municipal election:

“The Green Line is a vital project that will transform our city. It will connect communities from north to south and get Calgarians back to work.

“But the UCP have repeatedly tried to cancel this project. First they sent their big party donors to kill the project in a campaign that ultimately failed after city council approved the project in an almost unanimous vote.

“Now the UCP are trying to delay the project in the hopes of getting a new city council that will stop the Green Line despite polling showing Calgarians continue to overwhelmingly support the project.

“At a time when Calgarians desperately need jobs, the UCP are needlessly delaying a project that will create 20,000 jobs and support our economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The UCP are playing politics and failing Calgarians."
