Anti-abortion groups celebrate their candidate Jason Kenney: Will Kenney defund abortion?

EDMONTON – After organizing for the Jason Kenney campaign, anti-abortion groups are celebrating their UCP win and calling on him to defund abortion. 

Campaign Life Coalition, an anti-abortion group who said Jason Kenney has a spotless record for voting against abortion rights in his career, congratulated Kenney and said “Defunding abortion would be a good start”[1] for his policies. They said, “We hope that not only will Jason continue to defend parental rights, but that he will defend the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death during his campaign and as premier.”

Right Now, another anti-abortion group who try to elect anti-abortion candidates across Canada, attended the UCP leadership vote and tweeted their congratulations.[2] They had previously told their supporters to put Jason Kenney as their “#1 choice.”[3] 

The Wilberforce Project, an Alberta-based anti-abortion group led by Kenney supporters, went as far as to state that Brian Jean “wants to purge religious conservatives.”[4] They told their supporters, “make sure to put Jason Kenney as your number one choice.”[5]

The anti-abortion groups are very happy with Jason Kenney’s win. Will Kenney defund abortion?
