Spring 2018 - Bill 6: Gaming And Liquor Statutes Amendment Act (cannabis)
Albertans’ health and safety will be top priority as the province looks to modernize the Gaming and Liquor Act before cannabis is legalized by the federal government.
The amendments would give the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) the tools necessary to oversee and enforce Alberta’s new cannabis market in advance of Federal cannabis legalization.
The government is making a number of amendments to modernize and update the Gaming and Liquor Act.
In some cases, these amendments are in response to the impending legalization of cannabis later this year, but the changes will also affect gaming and liquor operations in Alberta.
From a cannabis standpoint, these amendments help to further protect public health, keep cannabis out of the hands of children and limit the illegal market.
They’ll also increase the capability and expertise of the AGLC’s board and create new opportunities for liquor retailers.
