Saluting small business
By Marg McCuaig-Boyd, MLA for Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley. First published in the Fairview Post Weds. Oct. 19, 2016.
As a former Small Business consultant myself and a former member of the Fairview Chamber of Commerce, I understand the challenges and rewards around owning your own business.
People in the Peace Region get things done.
Small business entrepreneurs are key in keeping rural Alberta viable. They give back to their community in so many ways and are virtually the backbone of our towns and villages. They donate to local charities and non-profits organizations. They also support many other programs and activities that matter to the families and friends in their community.
As we celebrate Small Business Week in Alberta October 17th - 21st, I would like to extend my thanks and congratulations to all the hard working, self-employed business leaders in Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley constituency.
It’s always been said "people in the Peace Region get things done" and I want to commend all the small businesses for your commitment to our communities; to your foresight in seeing the needs of your community and your tenacity in pursuing your dreams to accomplish the things that are needed.
Canada is made up of hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs and so many of those visionaries live right in our home towns.
Even with the very real challenges our business people are currently faced with, Alberta‘s small businesses continue to demonstrate innovation and resiliency in the face of these challenges, making it especially worthwhile to celebrate them this week.
Thank you for your continued commitment and support of our rural lifestyle.
I would also like to point out that there are many supports available to small business leaders to help you through these difficult times in the form of assistance in writing a business plan; accessing legal advice; increasing marketing capacity; hiring expertise or exporting.
Please feel free to contact my office if you require more information about any of this things. So as Alberta celebrates small business achievements this week, I salute you!
